‘Over 6,600 J&K, Ladakh children aided under Mission Vatsalya’ | KNO

Srinagar/Leh, Dec 12 (KNO): The Ministry of Women and Child Development Friday informed the Lok Sabha that over 6,600 children from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been benefited through Mission Vatsalya scheme during the financial year 2024–25. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the ministry said that Jammu and Kashmir recorded 1,385 children in Child Care Institutions (CCIs) and Ladakh accounted for 77 beneficiaries in institutional care. Under non-institutional care including sponsorship, foster care and adoption — the Ministry reported 5,092 beneficiaries in J&K and 482 in Ladakh, indicating a significant reliance on community and family-based support systems in both Union Territories. The government said Mission Vatsalya aims to ensure care, protection, rehabilitation and social reintegration of vulnerable children, including orphans, abandoned children and those with single parents. “The scheme is implemented across all States and UTs through Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) and Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs).” For 2024–25, the Centre released Rs 1,405.53 crore under Mission Vatsalya for the entire country, the Ministry informed the house—(KNO)
